Low-maintenance quartz countertops
Quartz countertops are made from crushed natural quartz bound with resin. The result is a hard, nonporous surface that never needs sealing and shrugs off coffee, wine and cooking oil. Colors run from bright solid whites to soft concrete grays and marble-look slabs with long veins.
Because the pattern is consistent from slab to slab, quartz is a strong choice for long runs, large islands and seams that need to disappear. It is popular for kitchen countertops, bathroom vanities, laundry rooms, backsplashes and shower surrounds.
Fabricated by people who cut stone every day
Quartz is only as good as the fabrication. We template your space after the cabinets are set, plan every seam and cutout with you, and cut and polish each piece in our shop on Sloan Hwy. Ask us for current supplier samples when you visit the shop.

Quartz countertop questions
- Is quartz better than granite?
- Neither is better for everyone. Quartz never needs sealing and has a consistent pattern; granite is natural, one of a kind and handles heat better. Our stone guide compares them side by side.
- Does quartz stain?
- Quartz is nonporous, so coffee, wine and oil wipe off. Strong chemicals like oven cleaner or paint stripper can dull the surface, so stick to mild soap and water.
- Can quartz go outside?
- We do not recommend it. The resin in engineered quartz can fade or yellow in direct sun. Granite is the better choice for outdoor kitchens.
- How thick are quartz countertops?
- Most kitchens use 3 cm (about 1 1/4 inch) quartz, which needs no plywood underlayment. Thicker-looking edges can be built up with a mitered edge.
